Elliptical Exercise Machines

!9# Elliptical Exercise Machines

Rising Popularity

Elliptical exercise machines are becoming the exercise machine of choice both at the gym and for at home use. Fewer people are turning towards the old fashioned stationary bikes and treadmills of the past and are turning towards elliptical machines.

Less Impact On Joints

One of the reasons that the elliptical training machine is becoming more popular than treadmills is that with the elliptical machine there is no impact on the joints. For people with joint issues (and anyone who is substantially overweight) this is a very big deal. The treadmill pad is usually easier on the knees than walking on cement but there is still an impact on the knees. With the elliptical there is no impact on the knees at all.

Total Body Workout

A big positive for elliptical machines is that they give your body a total workout rather than just focusing on the legs as treadmills and bikes do. If you are already working out, you might as well workout your whole body and get more "bang for your buck" so to speak.

Less Effort With The Same Amount Of Calories Burned

Most people have the impression that they are giving "less effort" when they are on the elliptical machine compared to the treadmill. This is probably because of the lack of impact on the joints. But the fact is that people burn just as many calories on the elliptical than they do on a treadmill. Less effort with the same results? Sounds like a good thing to me.
